The Wildwood Flower Radio Hour plays music comprised of these basic ingredients: 3 chords and the truth. We program real American music, bluegrass, newgrass, classic country, and Americana. Most of what we broadcast is performed on acoustic instruments, guitar, violin, mandolin, banjo, dobro and standup bass.
The Wildwood Flower Radio Hour is the only radio show in Los Angeles that consistently programs artists live in studio from the vibrant Los Angeles bluegrass/Americana scene. In keeping with Southern tradition, the Wildwood Flower Radio Hour features a weekly story telling segment called Talk Story. Some of these stories MIGHT involve a slight exaggeration of the truth. “Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.” – Mark Twain
Host Mike Bone, “Uncle Mike”, is a veteran of the record industry. The job of Co-Host is a rotating group from the Los Angeles scene; some musicians, some journalists, some scribes, all fans.
The Wildwood Flower Radio Hour debuted on KXLU in October 2019. The Covid 19 pandemic took “the Flower” off the air in March 2020 and, sadly, took the life of the co-founder of the show, Scott Ferguson.
The Wildwood Flower Radio Hour went back on the air Tuesday January 24, 2023, with the lineup, Host “Uncle Mike” and co-hosts “Cowboy Kenny” Feinstein (of the group Water Tower), and “DJ Meeks” spotlighting new artists on the bluegrass/Americana scene. Water Tower EXPLODED on the touring scene, forcing Kenny to leave the show.
Kenny’s job has been replaced by the incredible group of rotating co-hosts. The show expanded from 2 hours to 3 hours in length on September 9, 2025. The show also rebroadcast on KXLU Tuesday mornings at 3AM. “The Wildwood Flower Radio Hour” is booked 4 months in advance. The response to the show has been overwhelming. We are gratified and humbled by the response.
