DJ flor’s Sonic Evolution Through The Years
1997- I was born. Only music heard was probably my parent’s collection of 3 Mexican corridos CDs.
2006- 4th grade. I was in orchestra in elementary school at this point. It was my first year playing the clarinet. My dad started getting into classical music. My older sister was getting into classic rock. Meant listening to a lot of Queen and The Beatles on my Hello Kitty portable CD player.
2009- My first year in middle school. Still played clarinet. My music was starting to get a lot more risqué. I found my pop muse Lady Gaga. Even considered being Lady Gaga, Poker Face era, for Halloween. Glad I didn’t.
2011- My first year in high school. Listened to a lot of groups like The All-American Rejects and The Ready Set. “Love Like Woe” was on repeat while I fantasized about my crushes. Definitely angsty.
2014- Senior year of high school. My music taste had graduated to the likes of Tame Impala, King Krule, and Toro y Moi. Was finally attending music shows.
2018- Senior year of college. A more matured angst is back. Music taste is harder for me to define now. Was playing French synthwave for a while, post-punk forever. Want to try out nu-disco. Here’s to the evolutions to come!
